Doctor Faces Prison Sentence In Propofol Case Involving Actor Yoo Ah In

Doctor faces prison sentence in propofol case involving actor Yoo Ah In

The prosecution asked Judge Yoo Dong Gyun of the Seoul Central District Court to sentence Doctor A to three years in jail for violating the Narcotic Drug Control Act on March 5 KST. Additionally, they wanted a 270,000 won fine.

Doctor A was charged with self-administering propofol twice at a Gangnam-gu hospital last year without reporting it to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, despite giving actress Yoo Ah In the drug many times.

The prosecution said that Doctor A gave Yoo Ah In propofol 17 times but failed to record it in the integrated narcotics management system or report it to authorities.

Doctor A’s lawyer admitted to all crimes in the case but contended that the COVID-19 pandemic had harmed his health. They asked for leniency, blaming mental illness and stress for the defendant’s behavior.

The defense also stressed that Yoo Ah In’s inability to report propofol use was due to negligence. They requested a fine rather than incarceration due to the defendant’s regret and reflection.

Doctor A said, “I am reflecting and repenting” during the proceedings.

The court will decide the result at the sentencing hearing on April 4 KST.
