‘Dolphin’s Kwon Yu-ri Challenges The Screen With A Bare Face: “The Process Of Erasing Myself”

Actress Kwon Yu-ri revealed that she shed herself and stood bare-faced for her character in ‘Dolphin’.

On the 4th, I met with actress Kwon Yuri of the movie ‘Dolphin’ at a cafe in Samcheong-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul and talked about various things.

‘Dolphin’ is a work that tells the story of a woman in her 30s who is afraid of changes in her life, but finds courage through the joy she accidentally discovers and leaps into the world. This is actress Kwon Yuri’s first solo starring film, and she showed off a more mature and delicate performance as Na-young, a local newspaper reporter in her 30s who faces unfamiliar changes and challenges in her life

Regarding the reason for appearing in ‘Dolphin’, Kwon Yuri said, “I found independent films interesting. There was freedom in the subject matter, and I turned on the channel that showed independent films at home, so I watched them naturally. I watched independent films with the thought that they were refreshing. “I received the script for ‘Dolphin’ and it was a story about people who might be around people, so it was simple and emotional. So I thought I wanted to act as ‘Nayoung,’” she said.

Kwon Yuri, who appeared in her first lead role on the big screen through ‘Dolphin’, said, “When I first received the script, I didn’t have time to worry and think about it because it was my first lead role in a movie. As I was acting on set or concentrating on how to film each day, I felt pressure and weight. “I didn’t have the energy to feel it, but when I started promoting it, I felt like, ‘Is this what it is?’” he said. “There was a point where one of the team members had to come out as a representative and talk, and I thought that that was the weight of the main character.” As for the score, “I didn’t have time to think. I concentrated on filming and acting. I’m satisfied to say that it came out much better than the script,” he said.

Kwon Yuri attempted a ‘challenge’ in appearance as well. He said, “I studied the most ‘Nayoung’-like thing. To do that, I thought I had to erase Kwon Yuri. I tried to remove as much as possible. I also tried to remove as much makeup as possible and appear with a bare face. If I had an expression that was not special and a bare face, I would have done it. “I expressed my opinion that it would be a good idea. I wore the same outfit in turns, even on my days off, I wore that outfit, and I tried to live as ‘Nayoung’ as much as possible.”

He said, “There were a lot of challenges in putting on less makeup and acting without doing anything. It was very difficult, but I think I developed through the experience itself. I also grew a lot as a person through the character ‘Nayoung’. “I was able to feel once again the diversity of human beings,” he added.
