On March 5, KST, during a decision hearing conducted by Criminal Division 3 of the Jinju branch of the Changwon District Court, Mr. A, a sixty-year-old male, was charged with a crime that carried a mandatory one-year prison term. Regarding Trot singer Oh Yu Jin (15), Mr. A was charged with violations of the Stalking Punishment Act and the Information and Communications Network Act (defamation).
As a result, he was indicted, The prosecution provided a detailed account of Mr. A’s activities, asserting that he fabricated the identity of Oh Yu Jin as his own, visited her educational institution, and made repeated attempts to schedule meetings with her maternal grandmother from May of last year until the present. Furthermore, Mr. A is alleged to have defamed Oh Yu Jin through the dissemination of false online communications that cast doubt on her biological parentage.
Prosecutors emphasized the severity of the crimes, citing their prolonged duration and the young age of the victim. They also noted the significant mental distress experienced by Oh Yu Jin and her family.
In defense, Mr. A’s lawyer expressed remorse on behalf of his client, acknowledging the wrongdoing and attributing it to subjective beliefs. He highlighted that Mr. A ceased his actions upon realizing the objective truth and appealed for leniency.
In his final statement, Mr. A expressed his apologies for his actions. The sentencing hearing for Mr. A is scheduled for April 9.
Meanwhile, Oh Yu Jin gained recognition through her participation in KBS2‘s ‘National Trot Festival‘, where she secured third place, and is currently gearing up for the final stage of TV Chosun‘s ‘Miss Trot 3‘.
