A year behind bars is on the horizon for singer Eru following his DUI.
Following the prosecution’s request, the Seoul Western District Court upheld Eru’s conviction for drunk driving and sentenced him to one year in jail with a fine of 100,000 won ($75.23 USD), according to sources from March 7. The court is reevaluating the punishment, which was too light in his prior trial, and he faces a new term of 100,000 won, probation, and six months in prison.
“He confessed to the crime as a first-time offender, and since his debut as a singer, he’s been active as a leading K-pop singer in Indonesia, contributing to enhancing national prestige,” asserted Eru’s counsel. The defendant’s mother also has dementia and is highly reliant on him.
In Seoul’s Youngsan-gu neighborhood, Eru was pulled over for drunk driving in September 2022. His cooperation with Park, a 34-year-old female professional golfer, to trick the authorities into thinking she was driving was eventually accused without detention. Another scandal involving the artist and his decision to let an intoxicated coworker drive his car surfaced in December of that same year. He declared his break and publicly apologized at the moment.
