NewJeans’ parents have hired entertainment conflict specialist Kang Jin-seok to represent them in the legal struggle between HYBE and ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin. The appointment, revealed on May 19, comes ahead of Min’s May 14 court date for an injunction to prevent voting. Entertainment attorney Kang Jin-seok has handled many exclusive contract issues. His blog describes his competence in examining exclusive contracts, advising on terminations, pursuing breach damages, and conducting entertainment company investment return cases. The NewJeans’ parents petitioned the court through attorney Kang. They want to cooperate with CEO Min Hee-jin, according to the petition. HYBE management was previously informed by parents that NewJeans and ILLIT share concepts. Min Hee-jin hired Sejong to represent her against HYBE. Industry observers have also suggested NewJeans members may dispute their exclusivity contracts with HYBE. An emergency shareholders’ meeting by ADOR on May 31 could replace Min Hee-jin and other management figures. The court should rule on the injunction before this meeting.
