DJ Yesong, who was driving under the influence when he caused a tragic hit-and-run accident in the middle of Gangnam, Seoul, is facing a potential 15-year prison sentence. Judge Kim Ji Joung of Criminal Division 25 of the Seoul Central District Court presided over Ms. An’s (DJ Yesong) trial on June 11th. Ms. An is a twenty-something woman who was accused, under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, with unsafe driving resulting in death. The prosecution said throughout the trial that she was extremely drunk when she caused two traffic accidents, one of which was fatal. She showed a grave lack of accountability by shifting the blame onto the victim even though she was the one who caused the death. We ask that she be given a 15-year prison term and that her Mercedes Benz vehicle and its keys be seized.” Additionally, the prosecution stressed that the victim passed away from severe bleeding brought on by the collision. He must have had excruciating bodily agony as well as the profound mental anguish of facing an unexpected death at the moment of the incident. The victim’s family has had to deal with an unplanned burial and ensuing financial difficulties, and they still suffer every day.” “At the time, I had no scheduled DJ performances, which disrupted my life, and I attended a gathering for financial reasons where I could not refuse the drinks,” Ms. An apologized in her last statement. I sincerely apologize for my error, which resulted in the victim suffering irreversible trauma.” “I kneel and apologize to the victim who lost his life because of me,” she said, her eyes welling with tears. I have wronged the relatives of the deceased loved one in an irreparable way.” Ms. An made a commitment: “For the remainder of my life, I will live with the intention of atoning for my sins towards the deceased and his family. I sincerely apologize. I made a mistake.” “Even though she committed a serious crime, we ask for a lenient sentence with the hope that she can be rehabilitated and become a normal, productive citizen again,” her attorney argued in an attempt to win mercy. July 9 is set aside for Ms. An’s first trial verdict. In the past, on February 3, around 4:30 AM, Ms. An drove drunk and caused a collision in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul. She then ran away from the scene. Near the crossroads of Hakdong Station, she collided with a fifty-year-old motorcycle delivery driver. After being brought to the hospital, the driver, Mr. A, eventually passed away from his wounds. Ms. An had a blood alcohol content of 0.221% at the time of the accident, which is considered to be extremely drunk. She was then put on trial for hit-and-run and drunk driving.
