Big Hit Music has denied the plagiarism allegations against BTS Jungkook’s solo song “Seven (feat. Latto)”.
On the afternoon of the 22nd, Big Hit Music announced to Star News, “The copyright infringement claim related to Jungkook’s ‘Seven’ is not true. ‘Seven’ is a song created by a collaboration of 5 foreign composers, and it has nothing to do with the song included in the domestic album 24 years ago, as some people claim.”
Big Hit Music also said, “It is only a one-sided claim that does not meet any of the criteria for plagiarism, such as substantial similarity and reliance.
Previously, claims were raised that Jungkook’s “Seven” borrowed the main parts of Fin.K.L’s “Time of Mask,” which was released in 2000. The scale of the melodies of Jungkook’s ‘Seven’ and Fin.K.L’s ‘Time of Mask’, which were composed by several foreign composers, matched. Jungkook’s ‘Seven’ is said to have been co-composed by 5 people: Andrew Watt, John Belian, Henry Walter, Theron Makiel Thomas, and Lato.
After the release of his first solo album ‘Seven’ last month, Jungkook has achieved remarkable results on domestic and international music charts.
According to the latest chart (as of August 19) released by Billboard, an American music media outlet, on the 15th (local time), Jungkook’s ‘Seven’ topped the ‘Global 200’ and ‘Global (excluding the US)’. With this, Jungkook was recorded as the first Korean solo artist to keep the top spot for 4 consecutive weeks on the ‘Global 200’ and ‘Global (excluding the US)’ charts, which rank by counting streaming and sales in more than 200 countries/regions around the world. .
Along with this, “Seven” became the first song to be streamed more than 100 million times in 4 consecutive weeks since the “Global (excluding the US)” chart was newly established in September 2020.
