Former EXO member Chris (Chinese name Wu Yifan, Canadian nationality) was sentenced to 13 years in prison on charges of sexual assault.
According to China CCTV on the 24th, the Beijing Third Intermediate People’s Court, an appellate court, dismissed the appeal of Chris, who was indicted on rape and mass indecency, and confirmed the original sentence of 13 years in prison.
Furthermore, upon the expiration of his sentence, Chris was instructed to be deported from the country by the court. Due to China’s two-trial system, an appeal will result in the sentence being upheld.
The court upheld the sentence, stating, “Wu Yifan orchestrated lewd activities with others while taking advantage of the intoxication of a number of the victims to commit rape.” The initial trial decision erred in its recognition of the facts, but the evidence is also substantial. I was informed of the rationale.
Chris was charged with sexually assaulting three women, including an impaired woman at her own residence in December 2020. On July 31, 2021, he appeared in court on these charges. Chris was likewise charged in July 2018 with engaging in inappropriate behaviour with two women and an additional individual at her residence.
Her professional endeavours subsequent to Chris’s incarceration and deportation to Canada, her native nation, have further captivated public attention. Given Canada’s practise of chemical castration for sexual offenders, it is not implausible that Chris could potentially undergo the identical treatment. Forcible chemical castration is performed without the individual’s assent as a deterrent against recidivism.
