After being rejected by a girl group member, a 28-year-old man threatened to murder nine SM Entertainment employees.
The police arrested 28-year-old ‘A’ on August 11 for making threats and obstructing commerce. Reportedly, ‘A’ posted suicide threats against nine random SM Entertainment employees on a controversial online community.
According to reports, ‘A’ has been a fan of a girl group member for 17 years, and he told police he became enraged and wrote death threats after she failed to respond to numerous private messages. The suspect claimed he attempted to befriend the idol on multiple occasions, but when she did not respond, he became furious. The suspect planned what he would write in his death threats, which included several distinct situations and how he would respond to police.
The assassination threats follow the second mass stabbing in South Korea, which resulted in the hospitalisation of fourteen people. The police are reportedly treating the situation seriously because they believe ‘A’s threats were premeditated and not impulsive.
In related news, the aespa member Winter was recently threatened with stabbing by an online poster.
