BLACKPINK Investors Are Concerned About Lisa’s Possible Departure From YG

BLACKPINK, the leading girl group of YG Entertainment, has recently been in the spotlight due to remarks made by member Lisa during the concluding leg of their world tour in Seoul.

The stock of YG Entertainment closed trading on September 18 at a lower-than-average price of 78,000 KRW (58.90 USD) per share, decreasing by 1.64% from the previous trading day. This decline is attributed to the reemergence of rumours regarding a potential failed contract renewal.

Lisa’s intimate relationship with Frédéric Arnault, son of the chairman of LVMH and CEO of TAG Heuer, became the subject of rumours beginning on September 15. This allegedly led to Lisa and YG Entertainment failing to renew their contract, with rumours circulating that she rejected a 50 billion Korean won (37.6 million US dollars) offer from YG. This rumour precipitated the 2.9% decline in YG Entertainment’s stock price.

Investors and fans on the YG Entertainment discussion forum have analysed the remarks made by members during the BLACKPINK ‘BORN PINK’ world tour finale on September 16 and 17 at Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome.

Lisa’s speech, in which she attributed BLINKs (BLACKPINK fans) for the tour’s success and thanked them for their “unwavering support,” has attracted particular attention. She stated, “Thanks to BLINKs, this tour was made possible, and I was able to perform at a variety of incredible venues. Regardless of the conditions, I value your unwavering support and pleasure. Thank you for illuminating my twenties.” The ambiguity of the comments has led some to interpret them as Lisa’s farewell to her admirers.

Jennie, in contrast, reassured supporters during her speech by emphasising that BLACKPINK will persevere. She stated, “This year commemorates the seventh anniversary of our founding. Since I haven’t been able to view many BLINKs in Korea, I ardently desired an encore finale in Seoul. I am ecstatic and appreciative that it occurred. Rest assured that BLACKPINK will continue to endeavour.”

Given the contradictory statements, speculation regarding Lisa’s contract renewal and uncertainty regarding the renewal of other members’ contracts have increased.
