On April 29, CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Seoul hosted the media screening of the anticipated thriller “Following”.
Famous actors Byun Yo-han and Shin Hye-sun attended the Kim Se-hwi-directed event.
“Following” stars Byun Yo-han as Gu Jeong-tae, a real estate agent who likes to spy. It opens on May 15. Gu sees Shin Hye-sun’s SNS influencer Han So-ra die, thickening the storyline. The film follows Gu as he investigates her unusual death to exonerate himself of murder.
Byun Yo-han described Jeong-tae as unlikable and exploiting his work to gratify his curiosity by invading people’s privacy at the press event. Byun thinks the film makes viewers detest Jeong-tae more. He revealed how he played the part as normal despite his bad behavior, which caused him to downplay his performance.
Shin Hye-sun called Han So-ra unpleasant and hard to relate with. She described the difficulties of playing a distinct, morally ambiguous persona.
Director Kim Se-hwi acknowledged the risk of concentrating the plot around such unusual people. He thinks the film would make audiences think about social media’s negative impacts, such as attention-seeking and voyeurism, while distance them from the characters’ extremes.
The upcoming film “Following” will explore the darker side of human curiosity and how social media affects personal boundaries.
