At a recent fan-con, members of the boy group CRAVITY voiced their indignation about the extensive verification of personal information.
The issue came to light on February 20th when a Korean forum published an article headlined “The way-too-severe identity verification process at an idol fan-con.”

The post claims that the security company over-checked the fans’ personal information during the Starship Entertainment boy band CRAVITY fan performance, which took place at the Blue Square Mastercard Hall on February 18 and 19. This resulted in numerous complaints.

In particular, security guards did not hesitate to perform controversial actions, such as forcing fans to shout out their resident registration numbers or removing their resident registration cards, under the pretense of verifying that the person purchasing the tickets and the audience were the same person.

At concerts, checking personal information is one way to stop scalpers—people who purchase tickets with the goal of reselling them for more money. Idol group fans frequently purchase tickets for their idols’ concerts online, but they sell out fast because there are only so many seats available. When this happens, fans who aren’t able to get tickets will try to buy them from resellers—sometimes at significantly higher costs. Because of this, many people profit greatly from scalping concerts by preying on fans’ desire to see their favorite performer.

‘If reservations are made through illegal means, such as illegal transactions or attempts to make reservations through abnormal methods, or if it is confirmed that the corresponding use is fraudulent, the reservation will be canceled without prior notice and legal action will be taken,’ the concert organizers have also released a notice regarding reservations. can be harmed. Please exercise extra caution as tickets cannot be refunded in this situation.

Consequently, it is acknowledged that Starship Entertainment employed a security firm to verify that the information provided by the ticket purchaser and the attendee matches.

Fans’ criticism has been pouring in, though, since the security company’s personal information verification process goes too far. It got to the point where security refused to let some supporters who had purchased their own tickets in because their faces didn’t match the ones on their identification cards.

“I think you can sue the security company for something like that,” one netizen retorted, pointing out that the security company’s activities were outside the bounds of the law. Meanwhile, a different internet user expressed the neutral opinion that attendees shouldn’t take a chance by attending an event where ticket transfers are prohibited.

Nonetheless, there are still rumors that bodyguards gather private information from fans, make fun of their looks, and even charge them with having plastic surgery.

The statement that idol groups are sustained by the affection of their fans is not hyperbole. It appears that the controversy won’t go away until the agency takes decisive action. In response, Starship Entertainment said, “We have nothing to do with the security company,” in a brief phone conversation with Wikitree.
