Millions of NCT fans have left their social media accounts during their Starbucks partnership. NCT and SM Entertainment said in May of last year that they will be working together to create a special item line for the well-known coffee company. The collaboration received unfavorable feedback from international supporters and internet users due to the continuing boycott of Starbucks over the coffee company’s purported backing of Israeli military and businesses during the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Following that, a boycott of NCT and Starbucks’ joint venture was also prompted by this issue. Some fans have made the decision to stop following NCT on social media and to refrain from listening to their songs during the boycott. Social media trackers show that within the past month, NCT’s Instagram account has lost 674,370 followers, with the majority of those losses occurring on May 29, the day Taeyong is said to have spoken out against the partnership. In the course of the same 30-day period, NCT 127 lost 629,760, NCT Dream 633,210, and WayV 455,340 in followers. Taken as a whole, the NCT members’ individual accounts have lost 8 million followers. International NCT supporters have also driven protest trucks to Starbucks with placards that read, “We cannot support NCT or any other artist’s collaboration with any business that is involved in collecting money for the Palestinian massacre.” We can’t just watch. We hope that the companies involved in the boycott movement will no longer collaborate with us.” Keep checking back for updates.
