In response to reports that will charge $615K per episode, Kim Soo Hyun voluntarily reduces his wage
As an example of humility, actor Kim Soo-hyun has voluntarily reduced his appearance fee, refuting the idea that he is paid 800 million won (about 615,385 US dollars) per episode.
On the 26th, Sports Chosun was informed by an insider in the entertainment industry that, despite erroneous rumors portraying Kim Soo-hyun as a well paid actor, the actor’s price has been drastically reduced to a level far lower than his prior work. For his part in tvN’s “Queen of Tears,” Kim Soo-hyun reportedly received 800 million won every episode, but in actuality, his payment is much lower and is not even close to that amount.
Kim Soo-hyun appears to have been influenced in this decision by her worries about the mounting weight of production expenditures. The production crew of “Queen of Tears” realized that prices were getting out of hand, so Kim Soo-hyun decided to lower his salary in an effort to help save costs. While most performers are uncomfortable with cutting their fees and wages, Kim Soo-hyun made a contribution to “Queen of Tears” that was even smaller than what he was paid for his last film, “One Day.” Out of loyalty, this was done at writer Park Ji-eun’s request.
The same day, a media outlet said, “It is understood that Kim Soo-hyun received 800 million won per episode for appearing in ‘Queen of Tears,'” citing the CEOs of multiple drama production companies. If accurate, he would have received a total price of 12.8 billion won (about $9.85 million USD) for the 16-episode drama, which is one-third of the 40 billion won production budget. But “Queen of Tears” denied this assertion, and Studio Dragon added, “It is not true.”
As the most recent creation of Park Ji-eun, the author of the highly acclaimed tvN drama “Crash Landing on You,” “My Love from the Star,” and “Producer,” “Queen of Tears” has attracted a lot of attention. This is Park Ji-eun’s third collaboration with Kim Soo-hyun. The ‘Queen of Tears’ sixth episode, which aired on the 24th, broke previous records with a countrywide rating of 14.1%, according to Nielsen Korea.
