HYBE Chairman Bang Si Hyuk and MBC President Ahn Hyung-jun met on the 30th when the latter was visiting MBC Sangam. President Ahn apologized during the meeting for the suffering artists had to endure as a result of obsolete and incorrect production techniques from the past. He suggested having a conversation with HYBE to use progressive production methods.
There had been no artist or content exchange between MBC and HYBE for the previous four years. Consequently, HYBE’s performers, such as LE SSERAFIM and ENHYPEN, were unable to participate in MBC’s “Show! Music Core.”
“Let’s definitely improve the long-standing and entrenched flawed production culture between broadcast companies and entertainment companies,” President Ahn proposed to Chairman Bang during their discussion. Respect and concern for one another should permeate the atmosphere in which material is produced.” In addition, he declared that MBC would spearhead initiatives to strengthen artists’ rights and forge equitable alliances in order to develop a culture of entertainment that fosters growth on both sides.
Chairman Bang responded by expressing his sincere gratitude to MBC for taking K-pop artists’ rights into consideration. He continued, “I hope that this meeting will serve as an opportunity for the establishment of progressive production practices not only for our two companies but for the entire entertainment industry in South Korea.”
Following this conversation, the parties decided to soon provide details of their precise plans for partnership in order to bring about a new paradigm shift in the entertainment business.
