Female squad NewJeans is still on the rise and maintaining their “career high” in the main US and UK charts.
Following the release of their most recent album, “Get Up,” on July 28 (local time), NewJeans debuted at 15th position on the UK Official Albums Chart. This is the second entry for a Kpop girl group and NewJeans’ debut entry on the UK Official Albums Chart.
“Super Shy,” one of the album’s triple title tracks, also achieved its greatest ranking to date, landing at number 52 on the UK Official Singles Top 100 chart. The song had previously debuted on the chart in position 59, jumped up to 61st, and then climbed back up to 52nd, where it remained for three weeks.
NewJeans is still dominating US music charts and platforms at the same time.
As of July 27th, NewJeans’ song “Super Shy” peaked at number nine on the Spotify Global Weekly Top Songs charts and twelve on the Spotify US Weekly Top Songs charts, marking the group’s highest placements ever. Their previous best positions on the Spotify US Weekly Top Songs and Spotify Global Weekly Top Songs, respectively, were 11th and 28th, respectively, with “Ditto” and “OMG,” respectively.
New Jeans’ prologue song, “New Jeans,” which was pre-released on the 7th, rose 71 spots to 34th place on the Spotify Global Weekly Top Songs and an amazing 95 spots to 41st place on the Spotify US Weekly Top Songs, in addition to “Super Shy.” “New Jeans” saw the most increase out of all the songs that debuted on the list this week thanks to this accomplishment.
Moreover, all the other songs were charted when “Get Up” was officially published on the 21st. “Cool With You” came in at number 28, “ETA” at number 38, “ASAP” at number 65, and “Get Up” at number 86 in the Spotify Global Weekly Top Songs. Meanwhile, “Cool With You” came in at number 33, “ETA” at number 42, “ASAP” at number 82, and “Get Up” at number 83 on the Spotify US Weekly Top Songs.
NewJeans has demonstrated their powerful presence by having all six of the tracks from their mini-album reach the Spotify Global and Spotify US Weekly Top tracks lists. The popularity and enduring appeal of every tune, not just the lead single, demonstrates NewJeans’ dominant position in the mainstream pop market.
In addition, the whole track list from the mini second album “Get Up” peaked at various places on Spotify’s Global Daily Top Songs, ranging from the 10th to the 32nd in the US, upon its release. For the first time, an album’s worth of songs has allowed a K-pop female group to break into the Top 50 of the charts.
The focus now is on whether or if NewJeans’ song “Super Shy” will increase in the US Billboard Hot 100 and whether or not there will be more entries, as their popularity on Spotify continues.
Only two Kpop girl groups, NewJeans among them, have concurrently landed two songs on the Billboard Hot 100 as of right now. In the meantime, BTS is the only K-pop performer to date to accomplish this accomplishment with three or more songs.
As they recently marked their first anniversary of debut, NewJeans are increasing the bar for noteworthy achievements in Kpop history.
Meanwhile, the “NewJeans vs. NewJeans” dilemma has been playing out on the Korean music charts. As of July 27, “Super Shy” was ranked #1 on the FLO and Genie daily charts, while “ETA” was at #2. The two songs are likewise in the top two positions on Bugs, albeit in the opposite order. On Melon, “Super Shy” held the top spot for eighteen days in a row, while “ETA,” which is currently ranked third, is also becoming more and more popular.
In addition, NewJeans has shown its strong presence by selling tangible albums during this period. Less than a year after its release, the group’s most recent album sold over 1.65 million copies in its first week, making it the second-highest debut week sales for a Kpop female artist.
