NewJeans’ “OMG” Certified Platinum In Japan, 2nd Platinum For The Group

Girl group NewJeans (Minji, Hani, Daniel, Haerin, Hyein) has added ‘Platinum’ certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan.

According to the Recording Industry Association of Japan on the 23rd, New Jeans’ hit song ‘OMG’ has exceeded 100 million cumulative streaming as of July 2023 and has obtained ‘Platinum’ certification. It is New Jeans’ second ‘platinum’ certified work after ‘Ditto’ (May 2023).

The Recording Association of Japan classifies music into gold (over 50 million), platinum (over 100 million), and diamond (over 500 million) depending on the cumulative number of playbacks (streaming sector) of the song, and grants certification every month.

‘OMG’ is the title track of the single album ‘OMG’ of the same name released on January 2nd of this year, and along with the b-side song ‘Ditto’, swept domestic and international charts.

‘OMG’ topped the Oricon weekly combined singles ranking (as of January 16, 2023 and March 13, 2023), and the two songs (‘OMG’ and ‘Ditto’) in ‘OMG’ both recorded 100 million Oricon cumulative streams meeting was achieved.

Japan’s interest in the 2nd mini album ‘Get Up’, which was released on July 21st, is also hot. ‘Get Up’ went directly to Oricon’s ‘Daily Album Ranking’ at the same time as the album release (as of July 21st). Not only that, but it also rose to the top of major music charts such as Line Music, Apple Music Japan, and Spotify Japan. These are valuable achievements achieved before the official debut in Japan.

Thanks to this popularity, New Jeans went on the stage of Japan’s representative summer festival “Summer Sonic 2023” on the 19th, and 30,000 spectators sang and cheered, confirming their explosive popularity in the country.
