Psick University Apologizes For Regional Disparaging Statement The Well-known YouTube Channel

Psick University has finally spoken out after six days of remaining silent to apologize formally for derogatory remarks made about the Yeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do region in a recent video. Their video “Made in Gyeongsangbuk-do, Yeongju Edition” went viral on May 11, drawing in a lot of negative feedback from viewers and people in the area. The video shows comedians Jeong Jae-hyeong, Kim Min-soo, and Lee Yong-ju of Psick University making a number of offensive comments about Yeongju, including making insulting jokes and drawing negative comparisons to other areas. They made fun of the region’s resemblance to China, panned the local cuisine for being too bland, and made derogatory comments about the landscape and culture. There was mounting pressure on the channel to respond to the issue as the backlash intensified. The video’s impact on local business owners and the mayor of Yeongju only served to heighten the already intense dispute. As a result, Psick University issued a long apology on May 18 via their YouTube community page. In their statement, they apologized for the offensive content and admitted that they had erred in their attempt to use Yeongju’s peaceful atmosphere for comedic effect, leading to inappropriate expressions that did not take into account the sentiments of locals and business owners. They admitted that their mocking remarks about the local cuisine and cultural traits were hurtful and did not serve the intended comic goal, thus they retracted those sentiments. Jeong Jae-hyeong, Kim Min-soo, and Lee Yong-ju, all members of Psick University, apologised to the owners of the impacted bakery and restaurant in person, according to the university. They apologized to everyone who was offended by the content, including the people of Yeongju, government leaders in the region, and their viewers. As a final step in their apology, the channel took full responsibility for the situation and promised to use what they’ve learned to make comedic yet polite material in the future. They informed their viewers that they would use this incident to reflect on how their words and deeds affect different cultures and how they might make improvements going forward.
