Rapper Bessakgong Finally Gave Up His Appeal And Accepted The 1-year Prison Sentence

Rapper Bessakgong (real name Kim Jin-woo) was sentenced to prison for filming secretly and spreading the photos, and he gave up his appeal after failing to avoid the prison sentence in the appeal trial.

According to legal circles on the 14th, Bessakgong submitted a waiver of appeal to the court on the 11th, accepting the appeal trial ruling on his charges of violating the Special Act on Punishment of Sexual Crimes, etc. (filming and distribution using cameras, etc.). Bessakgong is currently serving a 1-year prison sentence and his detention period has also been renewed.

Bessakgong was indicted on charges of secretly filming his then-girlfriend sleeping in 2018 and distributing the photos to his acquaintances. The first trial sentenced Bessakgong to 1 year in prison, and Bessakgong appealed, but the appeal trial upheld the first trial verdict.

Immediately after the appeal trial verdict was announced, Bessakgong posted on his SNS, “I have made a mistake and I am giving up my appeal to take responsibility for it.” He said, “I sincerely apologize to the victim,” and “I will live a new life with regret for my mistakes in the future.”

Bessakgong’s prison sentence appears to reflect the social atmosphere that calls for strong punishment for hidden camera crimes. Hidden camera crimes are serious crimes that violate the victim’s personality rights, and their punishment needs to be strengthened. I hope that Bessakgong’s prison sentence will help prevent the recurrence of hidden camera crimes and protect the victims.
