On March 19, in the early hours of the day, Jung Joon Young, the singer who had been found guilty of gang rape and illegal dissemination of sex tapes, was freed from Mokpo Prison in Jeollanam-do. One day before the March 20 KST release date, he departed the facility at 5:05 am.
Jung Joon Young wore a black mask and a hat to hide his face from the public when he was released from prison.
In March 2019, Jung Joon Young and Choi Jong Hoon, the former singer of FT Island, were detained and charged for their roles in the gang rape of women in Daegu, Gangwon-do, and Hongcheon in January and March of 2016, respectively.
In addition, in a 2015 KakaoTalk group chat involving multiple celebrities, including Seungri, Jung Joon Young was charged with disseminating illicit sexual videos including women. The Supreme Court condemned him to five years in jail in September 2020. Although the prosecution’s plea for probation was denied, Jung Joon Young avoided having to reveal personal information or wear an ankle monitor.
In his closing remarks in the second trial, Jung Joon Young admitted his improper actions and apologized. “I deeply regret my immoral and irresponsible actions towards the victims, and I will spend the rest of my life reflecting on my past mistakes,” he said.
