SM Entertainment Announces That Malicious Hacking On BoA Will Be Prosecuted In Korea And Overseas

SM Entertainment releases a formal statement announcing that malicious cyberattacks targeting BoA will face severe legal repercussions in Korea and abroad.

SM Entertainment provided an update on the company’s stance against malevolent internet attacks directed towards BoA on April 11 KST.

According to the label,

x “Hi, I’m from SM Entertainment.
This statement relates to BoA, the artist on our label.
We have recently moved forward with large-scale lawsuits both in Korea and abroad with the assistance of law firm Sejong, which is in charge of all legal action related to the violation of our artists’ rights, along with the help of various overseas legal consulting firms, in light of the ongoing reports of false rumors, malicious attacks, insults, and slander targeting our artist on various SNS platforms and online communities.
Since our last statement, we have progressed with our litigation against particular cases, such as cyber “tow trucks” (malicious internet accounts), and have gathered a plethora of evidence from prior articles. We’ll keep gathering data and ensuring that attackers are made to answer for their crimes with the law.
Our artist is currently going through tough times and feeling stressed out since the malicious attacks have gotten to the point where it is hard for one person to handle them all. We hope that readers will take note of this declaration and understand that any actions that fall under the category of harmful posting could result in legal ramifications. We will not be lenient or accept any settlements until individuals are held legally accountable.
We remind you once more that such acts are blatant legal infractions that violate someone’s respect and dignity. We also warn you that people who engage in such behavior may be subject to severe penalties under current legislation.
We beg that these careless assaults on our artist end.
I’m grateful.
However, a lot of fans took issue with SM Entertainment’s statement, pointing out that it didn’t really say anything different from the label’s previous alerts about malevolent internet attacks. “Show us results with real actions, not just mere words,” was the plea from the fans to SM Entertainment.

BoA, meanwhile, recently made headlines when she made hints that she wanted to leave the entertainment business.
