Tang Wei Discusses Her Motivation For Taking Part In IU’s Upcoming Music Video

A high-profile collaboration can be heard in the teaser for IU’s upcoming mini-album, which features a song.

IU’s agency, EDAM Entertainment, released the teaser video for the song “Shh..,” which is taken from their sixth mini-album, “The Winning,” on February 13.

Starting off the teaser, the words “SHH..” are written in large red characters on a crimson background. IU, who has short black hair, is seen staring with an expression of slight expectation. The next scene shows Tang Wei looking carefully out the window while perched on the steering wheel of an automobile. The pair is seen lifting a wooden floorboard in what looks to be an inside environment as the movie changes to black and white, with the message “THERE WAS A SONG.” The preview ends with IU staring intently into the camera and saying, “That name is Shh,” in a way that leaves viewers curious.

The teaser, which captures the spirit of the people and ephemeral moments, is sophisticated and alluring despite its little length. There is a strong, engrossing chemistry between the two main characters. The addition of Tang Wei, a well-known actress who has won numerous awards and recognition for her work, including Best Actress at the 43rd Blue Dragon Film Awards in 2022 and Best Acting Award at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2023 for the movie “Decision to Leave,” to the video, adds even more intrigue. Interestingly, Tang Wei’s debut in a domestic Korean music video is noteworthy, arousing interest in the dynamic she would provide.

Speaking through IU’s agency, Tang Wei reflected on her involvement and expressed her appreciation for IU as an artist, showcasing IU’s skill, character, and music. “The decision to appear (in the music video) is simple,” Tang Wei clarified. She is an artist that I admire. Like everyone else, I think IU’s music, charm, and talent are amazing. I’m in my first music video, and I had a great time working with IU and learning a lot while we were filming.”

The way the personas played by the two artists were portrayed in the teaser also aroused curiosity. An exciting dynamic between IU and Tang Wei was alluded to in her post-production remarks, which increased interest in the story that will be told.

The main single, “Shh..,” gained popularity as it was revealed that talented singer-songwriter Joe Won Sun of Roller Coaster and HYEIN from NewJeans would be making cameo appearances. There was also conjecture over the participation of an unidentified narrator. Expectations were further raised for this production by the creative team behind it, which included writer Kim Ji Hye and director Hwang Soo Ah, who were well-known for their work together on IU’s earlier music videos.

On February 20 at 6 PM, major online music outlets will release IU’s much awaited mini-album, “The Winning.” The full version of the “Shh.” music video will debut at midnight on February 23.
