At the 77th Cannes Film Festival, YoonA, a member of Girls’ Generation, was apparently subjected to racial discrimination by a security guard, as reported by the Times of India and other foreign media outlets. Considering that Yoona is the sole Korean representative for the jewelry business Qeelin, she was extended an official invitation to attend the festival on May 21. At the occasion, Yoona was eager to shine, as she was wearing a pink gown and exuding an air of natural charm. Nevertheless, an incident took place while she was climbing the steps and attempting to strike a posture for the photography crew. There is a video of the incident that shows a female security agent forcibly restraining Yoona from posing, which causes Yoona to appear confused and uncomfortable on her face. The guard did not permit her to continue with the posture and instead motioned for her to enter the arena, despite the fact that she was making an effort to keep her cool and waving politely at the cameras. Due to the fact that identical limitations were not imposed on white women at the same site, it has been reported that this guard may have particularly targeted women of color. A number of notable individuals, including the Dominican actress Masiel Taveras and the African American singer Kelly Rowland, were subjected to discriminatory behavior during the event. Discussions on social media, particularly videos on X, brought attention to altercations that took place between the two celebrities and members of the security staff. In response to these occurrences, residents of the internet have demanded that the security officer who was involved be fired immediately, expressing their disapproval of the conduct as being blatantly discriminatory based on race.
