Former GLAM member Dahee, now known as AfreecaTV streamer Kim Si Won, abruptly announced that she will be resigning from streaming.
Kim Si Won sent her admirers a long handwritten letter wishing them farewell. Thank you to all of you, she wrote. I want to stop streaming right now, and I’m not coming back.” She went on, “I think it’s best if I communicate what’s on my mind really and honestly, but I didn’t know how to start speaking this because I kept this to myself until now. I wrote and rewrote this multiple times, so it took some time.”
“To be honest, the May 1st streaming celebrating my sixth anniversary was supposed to be my last stream,” Kim Si Won went on. “It’s been six years since I started streaming.” I believe that some people saw that I was struggling, so they expected this. Nevertheless, I wanted to give it my all and try until I wouldn’t regret it.”
She gave an explanation for her decision to stop streaming as well: “There were a lot of things going on at once, and there were several reasons that piled on top of one another. If I say this through streaming, I think I won’t be able to deliver everything on my mind and I felt I wouldn’t be able to end it.” So, I’m so exhausted. I believe I’ve become weary since I’ve experienced several instances where those who appreciated and liked me began placing the blame on me. People will be interested in this, but I don’t want to keep coming up with reasons why I want to quit streaming. I want to simply be remembered for the good things, so I won’t explain anything forever.”
“This is going to be my last letter and the last announcement,” she shared as she wrapped up. After reading this, some individuals will be disappointed, while others will feel angry, depressed, or relieved. All I want to do is thank you all. Right now, I want to stop streaming. And I’m not coming back.”
“When I chose the profession of being a BJ (broadcast jockey/streamer) for the first time, I was awkward with everything and things were challenging,” she said, thanking those who have supported her during her streaming career. It has now become a routine life…I am appreciative of everyone who has supported me throughout the years. There are a lot of people in this world, and I have met a lot of fascinating, distinctive, and lovely people via radio.”
Finally, she said, “You always gave me courage and helped me realize my worth during the numerous times I struggled to understand my feelings. I sincerely appreciate all of the people who looked out for me and gave me time. I wish you all the best of health and may this place be a treasure where you make more priceless experiences with much greater people.”
Simultaneously, Kim Si Won rose to prominence as the former member of the girl group GLAM, Dahee. She ran into legal trouble in 2014 after surreptitiously filming actor Lee Byung Hun and model Lee and threatened them with a 5 billion KRW (3.8 million USD) demand.
She was given a one-year prison term for blackmail, but after filing an appeal, the judge reduced her sentence to one year with suspension and two years of probation. She had a fresh start in 2018 as an AfreecaTV BJ following the breakup of GLAM, claiming that she went back to broadcasting because she wanted to sing. She gained notoriety last year when she received balloon earnings of 2.4 billion KRW (1.8 million USD) (AfreecaTV tips).
