The Police Formally Investigate Lee Sun Gyun’s Case

A official investigation into Lee Sun Gyun’s death has begun by the police.

as taken over by the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency’s Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit on January 18. Actor Lee Sun Gyun was accused of drug use.

The Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency took the investigation when the Incheon Police Agency requested outside help on January 15. This is to address bias and ensure impartiality in investigating Lee Sun Gyun’s disclosed case information.


Last October 19, “top celebrity L.” Lee Sun Gyun’s drug use charges surfaced. Initial internal probe issues included premature identity revelation.

Legal sources say a 28-year-old former actress (B) tipped off the police, not a 29-year-old entertainment institution manager (A). On October 10, B presented A’s hair to the police and implicated Lee Sun Gyun based on phone calls. B was arrested for coercively extorting 50 million KRW (37,317 USD) from Lee Sun Gyun.


Last December 27, Lee Sun Gyun, who had been questioned three times, was discovered dead in a car.




The ‘Lee Sun Gyun Prevention Law,’ aimed at stopping investigating agencies from violating human rights, has been supported by filmmaker Bong Joon Ho, musician Yoon Jong Shin, actress Yoon Yeo Jeong, and others.
