Mr. Park, a fashion brand executive suspected of drug-related offences in connection with the well-known actor Yoo Ah In, is the subject of an active manhunt by law enforcement authorities. Mr. Park, who is in his forties, is reportedly acquainted with Yoo Ah In.
In accordance with a statement released by the police on September 18, the substances crime investigation unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency had applied for Mr. Park’s pre-trial detention. The allegations against him include fleeing the crime scene, tampering with evidence, and violating drug control laws.
Mr. Park allegedly transmitted a total of 13 million Korean Won (9,830 USD) on three separate occasions to YouTuber Yang, a known associate of Yoo Ah In, who fled abroad in April. According to law enforcement, this money was likely spent on Yang’s international flight reservations and other expenses incurred during his overseas stay.
In addition, Mr. Park is accused of eradicating text messages stored on his mobile phone that he had exchanged with individuals under investigation, as well as purchasing zolpidem under an alias.
A senior police spokesperson addressed the issue by stating, “In the future, we will continue to investigate illicit activities that impede the state’s legitimate investigative and judicial powers. This includes tampering with evidence, abandoning the scene, and narcotics abuse.”
In related news, the Violent Crimes Investigation Unit of the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office, led by Chief Prosecutor Shin Jun Ho, disclosed that formal requests for detention warrants had been submitted for Yoo Ah In and another acquaintance, Mr. Choi. They are accused of violating drug control laws, tampering with evidence, and fleeing the site of the crime.
