Celebrity Concert Ticket Fraud Man Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison

A man in his 30s was sentenced to six years in jail for scamming 600 million won by posting fraudulent comments on a second-hand trading site offering concert tickets for celebrities such Lim Young Woong, IU, and BLACKPINK.

Judge Lee Jong Min of the 3rd Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court sentenced fraud suspect Mr. Kim (30) on January 16 KST, according to the legal community.

The seriousness of Mr. Kim’s crime, the number of victims, and the harm caused influenced the court’s judgment. After being indicted and tried for fraud, Mr. Kim used the profits for gambling and cryptocurrency investments, resulting in a harsher penalty.

Mr. Kim promised a victim BLACKPINK concert tickets in exchange for the sales revenue in October 2022. He merely got 650,000 won and never delivered the tickets. Mr. Kim stole 450,000 won by selling Lim Young Woong’s concert tickets in November.

Mr. Kim kept committing fraud. He stole 216 million won from 80 victims by claiming to sell Lim Young Woong’s concert tickets in May and August.

Mr. Kim also arranged open messenger chat groups for Lim Young Woong and IU concert ticket transfers. He collected victims’ credit card details and fraudulently obtained loans. He told victims the loan cancellation payment had been deposited and demanded it be sent to him. Thus, Mr. Kim received 59.1 million won in 51 payments.

Mr. Kim stole 595.44 million won from 31 victims.

Netizens were outraged by Mr. Kim’s six-year prison term, citing his arrogance to apply for credit card loans after stealing victims’ cards and his need to return the money. Many questioned why he became a criminal and pushed him to change.
