LE SSERAFIM’s ‘EASY’ album is again criticized for ‘heavy referencing’
The South Korean pop music review magazine IZM, which has frequent evaluations by major music critics, again attacked LE SSERAFIM’s comeback album ‘EASY’ for “heavy referencing”.
After its February 19 release, music writer Lee Seung Won reviewed LE SSERAFIM’s ‘EASY’.
Starting with Lee Seung Won, “LE SSERAFIM’s music has impressed. LE SSERAFIM has become a 4th-generation leader by successfully incorporating the most successful pop music sounds into their own sound and character.”
This record, ‘EASY’, has painfully clear references, the music reviewer said. ‘Smart’, an Afrobeat song, sounds like Doja Cat’s ‘Woman’ in style and tune. The rock opener ‘Good bones’ quickly recalls Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ ‘Date with the night’.”
Lee Seung Won commented, “The lazy modification of familiar sounds without much creative effort evokes a sense of deja vu, inevitably losing any semblance of freshness.” He also compared “Swan Song” to SZA’s “Kill Bill”.
Previously, LE SSERAFIM faced criticism for referencing Rosalía in their 2nd mini album “ANTIFRAGILE” title track.
K-netizens debated if the songs above resembled Doja Cat’s “Woman” and SZA’s “Kill Bill” after the IZM review.
