Google and YouTube worldwide head of Music Lyor Cohen called BLACKPINK’s Coachella debut one of YouTube’s most memorable and meaningful events.

Lyor Cohen spoke on the popular Korean YouTube discussion show MMTG on April 4 about his nearly 40 years in the music industry. Lyor worked at several hip-hop record labels for over 30 years. After managing artists at Rush Productions, he led Def Jam. He joined Warner Music Group as an executive after Def Jam. He left Warner to create 300 Entertainment in September 2012. YouTube named him Global Head of Music in September 2016. He invited MMTG host JaeJae to Coachella to interview Korean artists performing.

He added, “The YouTube team’s first BLACKPINK invitation was a highlight. Everyone gathered to support them. The force of Korea’s creation was evident as all the artists and celebrities stood in front exclaiming ‘OMG.’Following his praise, Lyor Cohen said, “That night they dropped the mic on everybody.”

Korean netizens were thrilled when Google and YouTube’s global head of Music named BLACKPINK’s Coachella debut one among YouTube’s most crucial events.
