SEVENTEEN won the Daesang “Album of the Year” at the 38th Golden Disc Awards (hence “2024 GDA”) in Jakarta International Stadium on January 6.

In albums, girl groups also advanced last year. Despite years of boy group dominance in albums, the vibe was different this time. IVE, aespa, and LE SSEFAFIM were among the 10 Album bonsang winners based on physical sales.

After winning Best New Artist at GDA 2016, SEVENTEEN got their first Daesang. From 2017 until 2023, they earned continuous Album Bonsang (Physical Bonsang) accolades before becoming Daesang in their 9th year.

Thus, SEVENTEEN is the ideal of K-pop idols who moved from “zero to hero” by maintaining appeal throughout the year. The group’s 10th mini-album, “FML,” which won the Daesang, sold over 6 million cookies in Korea, a record.

The 2024 GDA’s “Album of the Year” is based on 60% physical sales and 40% judging scores. SEVENTEEN, who had the highest physical sales score of all artists, won over 17 of 30 judges and scored 91.36 out of 100 points.

Stray Kids, noted for their quick development, placed second with sales of 5 million copies. Stray Kids was chosen by 5 of 30 GDA judges for “Album of the Year,” followed by NCT DREAM, Jungkook, and TOMORROW X TOGETHER.

The Golden Disc Awards album category was impartially selected. The rankings were based on circle chart album sales (60%) and expert judges’ (40%) judgments, including Golden Disc executive committee members, music journalists, music program producers, pop music critics, and domestic distribution-related personnel.
